“Robert Pawliczek’s work, whether in visual art or performance, is a grappling with process
– piled-up gestures overlaid endlessly like a palimpsest, like a room whose paintjobs keep
making it smaller.
In his guise as Bobby Would, we’re treated to a parade of the ghoulish and the angelic –
flaring guitars with an ozone halo, stentorian vocals skulking through the crypt. It’s a lurid
yellow wash of layers, Would grudgingly shoving a Sisyphean boulder up the hill.
Art is a struggle. With a downcast abrasive mist and a glint in his eye, Bobby Would is
setting about carving a cliff.
“Spinning in its own orbit, but with recognisable dabs – perhaps – of Phantom Payn / JG39,
Les Rallizes Denudes, Gary War, Gutteridge’s Pure…and of course Bobby’s own work in
Heavy Metal and Itchy Bugger.“
